Today’s Island Tip: Seagulls
Association Island is a unique campground, like most beach or Island locations we share the island with an abundance of wildlife. Today we are going to talk about how to minimize the negative impact seagulls can have on your camping experience. Seagulls are very intelligent birds that can adapt quickly, learn, and take advantage of a food resource while its available. When seagulls find a food source (e.g. campers garbage bags) they will rip open the bags… spreading the garbage around the island they will then fight for control of that food source resulting in very loud squawking, most often early in the morning. To reduce the negative impact of seagulls have on your camping experience we ask our campers not to put out their garbage overnight and only put it out at the front of their campsite between the hours of 8:30 am – 12:00 pm. We also ask that you do not use old Walmart bags as your choice for a garbage bag. We suggest using a sturdy white garbage bag that is more difficult for the seagulls to rip open. By following these tips you will help keep the Island beautiful and clean making everyone’s camping experience more enjoyable.
